Kenya has had four Presidents since independence. He retired on 30th December in line with a constitutional Provision which limits the Presidential term to a maximum 10 years of 5 years each. This provision took effect in following the re-introduction of multipartism.

Eliud Wambu Mathu was born in in Kiambu District, the home of so many leaders of modern Kenya.

Previously Kenya was a single party state. On 4th August , a constitutional referendum was held in which a new Constitution was adopted by the majority of Kenyan voters. The new Constitution was promulgated on 27th August, The first election under the new Constitution was held on March 4th William Samoei Ruto's tenure as Deputy President alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta was a continuation of Kenya's journey toward development and stability.

The first people to settle in Kenya were indigenous African communities who migrated from various parts of the continent. Other visitors included traders, explorers and tourists who came in from various parts of the world such as Portugal, Arabia, Roman empire, India and Greece.

The first major European presence in East Africa started with the arrival of the Portuguese in the East African waters in when Vasco Da Gamas fleet made its initial forays on its way to the East Indies.
