Where was archimedes born
There is not much that is known about Archimedes or his family, but he was the son of an astronomer and mathematician named Phidias. Archimedes was a very smart man that loved to learn. He traveled to Alexandria to study in Egypt and when he came back to Syracuse, he was working for the king. He helped the king, solved many of the king's problems, and stood by the king's side.
Archimedes discovered the relation between the surface and volume of a sphere. This was his greatest discovery. Archimedes was in love with curves. He had mastered straight lines with 2D and 3D figures. He needed something more challenging. Archimedes was the first person to calculate and prove formulas for finding the volume of a sphere.
Archimedes's screw is a machine to raise water. This was made by Archimedes.
Archimedes timeline
This machine was made to remove water from the holding of a large ship. The form of the screw is a helix and inclined at an angle of about 45 degrees to the horizontal of the bottom in the water. You turn a lever which carries the water up and to the acquired place.
