Chicago tribune biography of obamacare editorial staff
Some of you may have read this diary I posted last Summer about my brush with death and the importance of the Affordable Care Act. Even made it into Time magazine once. The Chicago Tribune occasionally publishes Guest Commentaries, usually opposite their editorial. University department heads, trade group representatives, union presidents, etc.
Come meet me and members of the Chicago Tribune's editorial board tonight, Wednesday October 16th, from pm.
I went to their website and found their requirements: Six hundred to seven hundred words, and no angry diatribes. In less than two hours I received a response from an editor saying they wanted to run it. The essay appeared online yesterday and is in the print edition today. You can read it here.
Once it’s passed by Congress and signed by a president, even the most controversial legislation acquires a shield — an appearance of inevitability.
A couple of years ago I received a disturbing and threatening letter in response to a letter to the editor of mine. If you want to get your blood pressure elevated, read the comments my piece has generated. I find it ironic that while I was required to use my real name and the town of my residence, the knuckle-draggers who assail my character, my honestly, my integrity, and my sanity can hide behind pseudonyms.
The depth of the ignorance displayed in the comments is breathtaking. An ER will determine if you are stable or not. And then send you home. Then there are the self righteous ones who think everybody should have health insurance, but they should be responsible and buy it themselves, and if they need financial assistance to do so then the government should help them with that.
